1. Who we are

Sudoku Scan ("the App") is developed and published by Antony Harris ("we", "us", "our"), an individual developer based in the United Kingdom. This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you download and use it, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Data Protection Act 2018, and Apple's App Store guidelines.

2. No personal data is collected

Sudoku Scan is designed from the ground up to work entirely offline, on your own device. We do not:

Because no personal data is ever collected, no names or email addresses are ever revealed, processed, retained, or made available to us, to Apple beyond standard App Store operation, or to any other party.

3. Camera and photo library access

Sudoku Scan can optionally use your device's camera or photo library so you can scan a puzzle from a newspaper, book, or photo. This feature works as follows:

4. Information stored on your device

To let you resume puzzles and keep your preferences, the App stores certain information locally on your own device only. This never leaves your device and is never visible to us:

What is storedPurposeWhere it is stored
Current and saved puzzle gridsLet you pause and resume gamesLocally on your device
Difficulty level and hint/help settingsRemember your chosen settingsLocally on your device
Statistics such as solve times or streaks (if applicable)Show your own progress within the AppLocally on your device

This locally stored information is removed automatically if you delete the App, and can be cleared at any time by removing the App or resetting its data in Settings.

5. Third parties and analytics

Sudoku Scan does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting software development kits (SDKs) that collect or transmit personal data. If this ever changes in a future update, this Privacy Policy will be updated in advance and the change will be reflected in the App's Apple App Privacy ("nutrition label") details before the update is released.

The App is distributed through Apple's App Store. Apple's own handling of your purchase, download, and device information is governed separately by Apple's Privacy Policy, which is outside our control.

6. Children's privacy

Sudoku Scan is suitable for a general audience, including children, precisely because it collects no personal data from anyone, at any age. As no data is gathered, there is no risk of children's personal information being processed, in keeping with the UK's Age Appropriate Design Code and Apple's guidelines for apps used by children.

Under UK GDPR, organisations must have a lawful basis for processing personal data. As Sudoku Scan does not collect or process any personal data, no lawful basis is required for any ongoing processing activity. This Privacy Policy is provided in the interest of transparency and to comply with Apple App Store requirements and the accountability principle of UK GDPR, even though no personal data processing takes place.

8. Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, delete, or export on your behalf. If data protection law ever applied to any future feature of this App, you would have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and objection under the UK GDPR. You would also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK's data protection regulator:

Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

Helpline: 0303 123 1113

9. International use

Because Sudoku Scan processes everything locally on your device and transmits no data anywhere, there are no international data transfers to consider, regardless of which country you use the App in.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect new App features or changes in law. Any changes will be posted at this same location with a revised "last updated" date. If a future update introduces any form of data collection, we will update this policy and the App's App Store privacy details before that update becomes available, and will seek any consent required by law.
